The PRIDES are neighbors and
fellow residents volunteering to keep Sun City West clean and beautiful
The PRIDES work under the
Adopt-A-Highway Program of Maricopa County. This includes the roadway from
sidewalk to sidewalk and includes the medians in many of our SCW
streets. From the sidewalk to the retaining walls, we work in conjunction
with the Recreation Centers of SCW. The areas
maintained by the SCW PRIDES include: 1. All
of R. H. Johnson from 2. Meeker
Boulevard from R. H. Johnson to 3. Stardust
from Beardsley to R. H. Johnson where there are retaining walls 4. 5. 151st
from 6. Meeker
and 135th to Crown Ridge to 133rd and Meeker 7. Meeker
and Pyracantha to Crown Ridge to Spring Meadow to
include Oxbow and Echo Mesa 8.
The grounds and parking lots of the SCW Foundation and SCW Posse complex and
Helping Hands & SCW PRIDES complex at the corners of R. H. Johnson and
Stardust Boulevards. Funding for tools and
equipment is from donations by individuals, clubs, civic groups, religious
organizations and businesses. We are a non-profit organization and donations
are tax deductible. Our
Landscaping Teams make up the largest group of the SCW PRIDES and maintain the
median strips, curbs, sidewalks, and grounds between the sidewalks and the
retaining walls in the areas noted above. Our
Safety Team conducts activities to maintain safe working conditions
in traffic areas as well as for personal safety. The
Irrigation Team checks 26 miles of the bubbler watering system each
Saturday and Tuesday mornings, and performs emergency maintenance when
needed. The
Maintenance Team performs maintenance on our 24 golf carts and pickup truck,
tools, and equipment in our headquarters each Tuesday morning. Jose Garcia,
who owns the Shell Gas Station at the corner of Camino Del Sol and The
Officers and Office Personnel perform administrative functions of the PRIDES - keep records,
prepare accounting reports, communicate with members and the public, prepare
a variety of documents on our computer system, and purchase office
supplies and equipment. The
Refreshment Team serves coffee, rolls, and
donuts at our monthly meetings. The Sundome
merchants provide us with the funds to purchase the above. The refreshment
team also serves as hostesses at special events such as our spring
social. YOU
and the PRIDES If you are
proud of our clean and beautiful community, and wish to keep it that way, you
qualify for membership. Full and part-time Sun City West residents are
eligible and welcome. No expertise nor prior
experience is required, there are no dues and no attendance is taken.
An orientation and on-the-job training are provided. As a PRIDES member, you will
enjoy a great feeling, knowing that you are helping to keep our community a
beautiful and desirable place to live. To
